Crispy Dominican Salami Bites

Prep Time: 5 minutes
Cook Time: 10 minutes
Serves: 2–4

Ingredients:
-
1 pack Palenque Salami Dominicano (cut into ½-inch thick slices)
-
2–3 tablespoons neutral cooking oil (canola or vegetable)
Instructions:
-
Prep the Salami:
Remove the salami from the packaging and slice into thick rounds—about half an inch thick is ideal. This thickness gives a good crisp outside while keeping the center juicy. -
Heat the Pan:
In a medium-sized skillet or frying pan, heat 2 to 3 tablespoons of oil over medium-high heat. Wait until the oil is hot but not smoking—you should see it shimmer. -
Fry in Batches:
Place the salami slices into the pan in a single layer, making sure not to overcrowd. Fry for about 3–4 minutes per side, or until both sides are crispy and deep golden brown. -
Drain and Cool Slightly:
Remove the fried salami from the pan and place on a plate lined with paper towels to absorb excess oil. Let cool slightly for best texture. -
Serve:
Serve immediately while still warm. These bites are perfect on their own, or as part of a Dominican-style breakfast with mangú (mashed plantains), fried cheese, and eggs.
Tips:
-
Don’t skip the rest time: Letting the slices rest for 1–2 minutes after frying helps them firm up and crisp more.
-
Double-fry for extra crunch: Once they cool a little, you can refry them quickly for 30–60 seconds for maximum crispiness.
-
Add a dipping sauce: These pair great with a garlicky mayo-ketchup sauce or even spicy mustard.
-
Perfect for gatherings: Serve on toothpicks as a party snack or appetizer—they’re always a hit.
-
Control the heat: Avoid frying on high heat, which can burn the outer layer before the inside gets hot. Medium-high gives the best result.
